The first event at the Spanish school was a hosting speech by the headmaster of IES Juan Carlos in German, French and Spanish to host the participants and giving the best wishes for the upcoming week.
After the break, the students took part in an international debate contest working with topics such as «Prison is a deterrant», «The role of the Students’ Council», «Democracy is in danger» or «The importance of the free press». The teams mixed nationalities and they had to work as one person despiste the language or cultural differences.
We learned a lot about the art of debating, which was highly appreciated in ancient times. After the input we started debating in different groups and came up in the end with a winning team. The topics were given, the teams international, the debating language was English. One of the given discussion points was about the students’ council, which lead to further discussions after finishing this highly interesting sequence.
